How do we pray for our children?

Children truly are a gift and blessing from the Lord. Becoming a parent changes our lives in countless ways. We tend to worry about things that hadn’t even occurred to us before. Being able to turn those worries into prayers can give us peace. It can help us recognize that our children are better off in the Lord’s protective hands than even in our own. Sometimes we may not always have the words to pray. Praying God’s word is always a great place to start.

Pray for their hearts

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” –Proverbs 4:23

Pray for their minds

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
–Romans 12:2

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” –Philippians 4:8

Pray for their salvation
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” –John 3:16

Pray for their friendships

“A friend loves at all times,
    and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”–Proverbs 17:17
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” –Proverbs 13:20

Pray for their courage

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” –Joshua 1:9

Pray for their path and their future

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” —Proverbs 3:5-6

Pray for their purity

“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.” –Psalm 119:9

Pray for their discernment

“I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.”–Psalm 119:125

Pray that they will stand firm in their faith and be protected

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” –Ephesians 6:10-11
