“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
Whether we recognize it or not, each of us has faith in something. Whether it’s faith that the sun will rise, that your car will start, that your chair won’t collapse, that a loved one will follow through with a commitment, that the money deposited in the bank will be available when you need it, and in so many other things. But what does it look like to have the kind of faith that the Bible talks about in Hebrews 11 and other passages? Faith that God is going to keep His promises; that He listens to and answers our prayers; that He created and remains in control of all things; that He guides our steps; that we can trust Him with the lives of our children; that we know there is a living, breathing savior whose death and resurrection gives us freedom. This isn’t a blind faith, but one based on hope, trust, belief, and surrender—knowing that God’s word is true, and He will do what He says. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Which kind of faith do you have?
