“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for everyone. Today in the town of Bethlehem, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
Anticipation can be positively defined as eagerly longing, excitedly awaiting, or expectantly looking forward to something. When was the last time you were anticipating something? A package to be delivered, a friend you haven’t seen in a long time to visit, a new baby to arrive, a wedding day, a birthday, a much-needed vacation—we can all think of something. Over 2000 years ago, in the town of Bethlehem, a couple–chosen by God, anticipated the arrival of a baby. Not just any baby, but a promised baby prophesied to be the world’s savior–Jesus. As we enter the Christmas season, what are you anticipating? What is your child anticipating? We have the opportunity to teach our children to approach Christmas with great anticipation, not just for gifts they can unwrap, but in remembering the greatest gift ever given, one that brings “great joy for all people”—the gift of Jesus Christ and the salvation that comes from believing in him!
