We have survived another cold and snowy January and are excited to move into a new month with new adventures. February’s theme is LOVE, and we have many lessons, songs, and crafts to share with your child. Most importantly, children will be reminded, on 1 John 3:1, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we could be called children of God; and so we are.”
Teaching our children about love, how to love others, and even more importantly, how much God loves them can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our children are always watching, listening, and taking in information. Children learn to speak, walk, write, respond, and read through observation. They can learn about love in much the same way. We can teach them how to love well by providing them with positive examples through how we show love to those around us. As we interact with our family, friends, acquaintances, and strangers throughout our day, let us ask ourselves, “Am I loving this person well?”. Choose to be patient and kind toward the person making our coffee or food when the restaurant is super busy, even when we are in a hurry. Verbizing is how grateful we are for what we have and how we recognize that God is providing for us- honoring a coworker for their faithfulness and hard work rather than criticizing them when they make a mistake. We should not be easily angered when our child or other family member does something that frustrates us. These are all examples of ways we provide positive examples of love. Of course, the ultimate example of love was God giving His one and only Son to die on the cross for our sins in our place when we didn’t deserve it. Teaching our children about this love and how Jesus is the most excellent source of love is the most valuable lesson they will ever learn.
