“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” –1 Thessalonians 5:18
Isn’t it wonderful that we kick off the “Holiday Season” with a day focused on being thankful? But how often does our Thanksgiving focus shift from gratitude to food, festivities, football, and early Black Friday shopping? At its core, although not a religious holiday, Thanksgiving is about being thankful for God’s provisions, protections & promises. God’s Word calls us to rejoice always, pray without ceasing & give thanks, not just on one nationally recognized day, but “in all circumstances”. Not only that, but it also goes one step further to remind us that this is God’s will for us. Being able to rejoice, pray and be thankful in all circumstances is truly what God desires for our lives. A life filled with these things is one that reflects Jesus. Parents, as we approach Thanksgiving let’s ask ourselves, am I rejoicing, praying and giving thanks? Where is my focus? Am I reflecting Jesus in every area my life? How am I modeling these things in my own life, and am I doing this with my own children?
